Opposing Argument
Or: those against raising minimum wage in the U.S.
Opposition: According to those against raising minimum wage, keeping the minimum wage where it is will prevent an econmic disaster.
A. Hurts lower skilled workers
1. Because of the raise there will be "fewer jobs available" because with the need to cut down on staff, employers will only want to keep the more experienced employees. (Case against 1)
2. More applicants means tougher compitition, workers with less skill will most definitly have "difficult time getting those job skills that are crucial to economic well-being. (Case against 2)
3. Businesses will need to put a bigger "emphasis on qualifications and experience when hiring for positions." (Hurt US economy 1)
B. Businesses suffer
1. If and when minimum salaries are raised, "salaried and hourly employees also expect pay raises." (Hurt US economy 1)
2. Raising minimum wage would mose definitly aim to destroy businesses "net income, and their overall ability to grow." (Hurt US economy 1)
C. Does not solve poverty problem
1. Businesses must "reduce the number of workers they hire and the hours they ask their employees to work" therefore the wage is not effective because of the lesser hours worked.(Will not reduce poverty 2)
2. Higher wages will aid only employees that "wind up earning that wage and further disadvantages lower-income workers" thus leaving poor families surprisingly worse off. (Will not reduce poverty 2)
